Wintertime Emissivities of the Arctic Sea Ice Types at the AMSR2 Frequencies

چکیده

The surface effective emissivities of Arctic sea ice are calculated using Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) measurements. These analyzed for stable winter conditions during the months January–May and November December 2020 several main types defined with maps Antarctic Research Institute (AARI). derived from AMSR2 data radiation transfer model a non-scattering atmosphere ERA5 reanalysis data. only areas totally consolidated definite types. Probability distribution functions built their such as nilas, young ice, thin first-year (FY) medium FY thick multi-year ice. emissivity variations frequency estimated each considered type all seven months. both gradients at channel frequencies. Obtained turned out to be generally lower than reported previously in scientific studies, whereas variability values proved much larger was known before. Sea-Ice Wintertime Lead Frequencies and Regional Characteristics in the Arctic, 2003-2015

The presence of sea-ice leads represents a key feature of the Arctic sea ice cover. Leads promote the flux of sensible and latent heat from the ocean to the cold winter atmosphere and are thereby crucial for air-sea-ice-ocean interactions. We here apply a binary segmentation procedure to identify leads from MODIS thermal infrared imagery on a daily time scale. The method separates identified le...

Bacterial Activity at 2 to 20°C in Arctic Wintertime Sea Ice

Arctic wintertime sea-ice cores, characterized by a temperature gradient of 2 to 20°C, were investigated to better understand constraints on bacterial abundance, activity, and diversity at subzero temperatures. With the fluorescent stains 4 ,6 -diamidino-2-phenylindole 2HCl (DAPI) (for DNA) and 5-cyano-2,3-ditoyl tetrazolium chloride (CTC) (for O2-based respiration), the abundances of total, pa...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

The thinning of Arctic sea ice

www.physicstoday.org During the first half of the 20th century, the Arctic sea-ice cover was thought to be in a near-steady seasonal cycle, reaching an area of roughly 15 million km2 each March and retreating to 7 million km2 each September. Ice thick enough to survive the melt season, termed perennial or multiyear ice (MYI), adds to the ice cover. A large fraction of MYI typically remained in ...
